About Scholarship

Established by Steven's family in 2008 to honor his character, his talent, and his love of art, the Steven A. Parascandola Art Scholarship is intended specifically for art students graduating from John Jay High School who are interested in pursuing an art-related major in college. Applicants must have a good academic record (85+ overall average), have demonstrated interest and involvement in the arts (extracurricular and/or JJHS art sequence), and have participation in extracurricular activities. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, one art and one non-art. Applicants must submit a digital PowerPoint portfolio of their original work. Portfolios and PowerPoints should contain 12-20 pieces of their best art work. Work should show evidence of risk-taking and experimentation, but also show a range of the applicant's abilities. At least 6 pieces should reflect the applicant's own artistic interests. It is ok to include work that has been executed independently. Online applications must be submitted by March 15, 2025. Paper applications may be submitted to the guidance department at John Jay High School with all attachments by May 1. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley for more information.
