About Scholarship

The Angela Svendsen Memorial Music Scholarship was established in honor of Angela Svendsen. Angela grew up in Wenatchee, Washington and earned a Bachelor's degree in String Performance from Central Washington University in June 1998. Upon graduation she moved to Vancouver, Washington and began teaching private violin lessons and playing the violin professionally. Angela was killed in a car collision with a drunk driver on February 11, 2007. Applicants must be a graduating senior from a high school in Clark County and plan to continue their education at an accredited college, university, career or technical school during the upcoming school year to pursue a degree in either music education or music performance. Applicants may submit one letter of recommendation from a person who can speak to their character, leadership, talents, and academic record. Letters from immediate or extended family members will not be accepted. This letter is not required, but is strongly recommended. A significant component of this application is an audio or video recording of a solo work performed by the applicant. Accompaniment is optional. Many files will be too large to upload directly to this application. Instead, please host the recordings to a third-party site (such as YouTube or Vimeo) and paste the link to the application. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington for more information.
