About Scholarship

The Aiko Susanna Tashiro Hiratsuka Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of noted pianist Aiko Hiratsuka. This scholarship is awarded to a student studying in the performing arts. Professional artists are not eligible to apply for this award. This scholarship will be awarded to entering freshman, undergraduate, and graduate students. Entering freshman applicants must be high school seniors. Every applicant must be an active National JACL member. JACL membership is open to everyone of any ethnic background. Applicants must be planning to attend a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning within the United States. Students deferring enrollment will not qualify for the scholarship program. Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, school administrator, employer, coach, or community leader. Applicants must also submit a recording of them performing. This can be as a file upload or a web link to YouTube or another site. Applicants must also list all honors they have received. The deadline for entering freshman students is March 1, 2024; and the deadline for undergraduate and graduate students is April 1, 2024.
